Psychoeducational Assessment

A Psychoeducational Assessment (sometimes called a “psychovocational assessment” for work settings) is a hybrid assessment that combines a complete psychological assessment with neurocognitive and academic testing. This combination allows Psychoeducational Assessments to clarify the mental health factors and the (potentially neurodevelopmental) learning difficulties that interfere with your optimal performance at work or school. A Psychoeducational Assessment overlaps considerably with a neuropsychological assessment; however, where a neuropsychological assessment emphasizes in-depth evaluation of neurocognitive functioning, a Psychoeducational Assessment emphasizes the identification of specific learning issues and processing deficits.

As with all of our assessment services, a Psychoeducational Assessment will result in a report for you that outlines any relevant diagnoses, an explanation of your challenges, and helpful recommendations for your next steps.

A Psychoeducational Assessment is often undertaken when a person has questions about attentional challenges, learning/memory problems, reading difficulties (dyslexia), writing difficulties (dysgraphia), or numerical/math difficulties (dyscalculia).

A Psychoeducational Assessment typically includes the following (though the actual scope of services will be determined collaboratively):

  • Clinical Interview(s) – 2.5 hours, in person or virtual

  • Neurocognitive/academic testing – 4 to 6 hours, in person

  • Completion of psychological questionnaires- in person or virtual

  • Review of medical/mental health records (as available and needed)

  • Collateral interview with spouses/parents (as authorized and needed)

  • Assessment report preparation

  • Feedback meeting to review the assessment outcomes

If you are interested in learning more about how a Psychoeducational Assessment may fit your needs, contact us! We will be happy to speak with you about our services and what may be most practical and helpful.
