Cognitive Rehabilitation
Cognitive Rehabilitation is the process of rebuilding, recovering, and resuming after a medical event impacting cognitive functioning. Most often, Cognitive Rehabilitation is applied to those who have experienced stroke or another form of traumatic brain injury.
Cognitive Rehabilitation is a complex, skills-oriented intervention that aims to help individuals regain their tolerance and confidence. Some cognitive functions are amenable to recovery through supported use and targeted exercises. Unfortunately, there are also some cognitive functions that are less amenable to recovery through direct means. In these cases, Cognitive Rehabilitation focuses on deploying strategies to compensate for challenges and facilitate functional success even where an underlying ability may have changed.
Each person’s challenges and trajectory are unique. At TPNS, we respect this reality and work with you to develop responsive treatment plans that are tuned to your specific needs and circumstances. Where possible, your support network may be included in your rehabilitation plan to help scaffold your independence. Likewise, we will be happy to work with other members of your care team as possible and as is beneficial.
Cognitive Rehabilitation may be conducted virtually or in person depending on accessibility and fit/need.
